Sardines is a fun game of memory and observation. Players take a quick look at the sardine cards in the box and then try to remember what they looked like. They then compare the new cards to determine which sardines they have already seen and which are new. The game is fast-paced, exciting and helps to train concentration and photographic memory.

The game develops descriptive skills and vocabulary – children can name the sardines as they memorise them (“the sardine with the red hat”, “the sardine with the green stripe”). This supports more precise expression and sentence structure. Parents can enhance the game with questions such as: “Which sardine was wearing socks?” or “Find the sardine that was different from the others” – this practises memory, categorisation and active expression.
