Musical instruments are a great aid for speech development. The tambourine with tongues encourages rhythm, which is important for the tempo and melody of speech. Children can drum to the rhythm of nursery rhymes (“ta-ta-ti-ti”) or imitate syllables. Parents can guide the game with questions such as: “Play fast, play slow. How many times did we tap?” – this naturally practises rhythm, counting, attention and fluency of speech.
